Will a free Chipotle Burrito entice you to try ShopHouse?

Chipotle is expanding the fast casual dining Shophouse with a new Chipotle Tie-In for burrito lovers. It’s all one family but the flavor profile is a bit different with the Asian Inspired sit down. I haven’t seen the numbers they are making but the Hollywood location seems to be doing OK. I understand why they want to leverage their rabid line out the door fan base to the new location but I can’t help but wonder if they should instead focus on new customers instead of splitting customers. Especially since they have restaurants so close to one another (about a mile) and the tastes are quite a bit different.

I do plan to try to stop by Shophouse for my BOGO deal next Tuesday but it won’t change my Hollywood food habit. When I go to the Arclight Cinema and grab food I toggle between Stella Barra and Shophouse since they are convenient. I prefer Chipotle but since I have locations close to my home and office I usually want my Americanized Asian Food Fix.

I am curious if they plan to tweak the restaurants a little since they are quite rigid about the amount of sauce and toppings that it doesn’t have the casual truly personalize your food that Chipotle has. I can’t help but wonder if that’s one of the frustrations that Chipotle lovers feel when they try to personalize their bowl. You can’t unless you want to pay extra and the incredibly limited selection means you can get bored pretty fast. I wonder if they’ve gotten feedback from customers who desire more items.

Try Shophouse, get a free Chipotle burrito.

Star Wars is coming for the kiddies

When Disney bought Star Wars I knew that marketing would go into overdrive not just for the generation that grew up fighting with homemade lightsabers but also to keep it in the minds, hearts and pocketbooks of future generations. One of the best examples of synergy is the release of all six Star Wars films with Little Golden Books. It’s the perfect channel for Jedi and Mord Sith loving parents/family members to get a child dreaming of making their own lightsaber after watching the animated series Clone Wars (CN) and Star Wars Rebels (DisneyXD).

The first six STAR WARS films are finally retold in Little Golden Books! Learn More

The force is strong in merchandising

Attending the Star Wars Celebration 2015 in Anaheim, CA is a major reminder that Star Wars is big business even before the Disney purchase. Walking the convention hall is the expected tshirts, toys, action figures, dolls and pins but also items appealing to the ‘new’ demographic of women/girls. Of course the only demo that everyone cares about is green and getting geeks to open up their wallets, Apple Pay and spend spend spend. You can buy Chewbacca Furbies, the Hot Wheels Star Wars Cars, luggage,/headphones and even branded toaster!

I found items under $10 and over $500 that were being bought and shipped home by people interested in having a piece of Star Wars. As a life long fan who attends conventions on a regular basis I find the celebration takes it to a logical place where fans have the money to spend and are looking for items so to tempt attendees they have Celebration exclusives. I tried to buy the special Hot Wheel but no car for me!

Check back later for photos and a more indepth post about the business of the Celebration
